Two New York firefighters were injured in a massive blaze that engulfed a home Wednesday.
Crews responded to the fire shortly after 8:45 a.m. in the Fort Salonga area of Long Island, Newsday reports. Firefighters from eight departments eventually arrived at the scene, and it took around three hours to put out the blaze.
“The house was under a heavy fire load,” First Assistant Chief James Purser with the Kings Park Fire Department told Newsday.
Flames caused the roof of the home to collapse, causing firefighters to stay outside to extinguish the fire, WABC-TV reports. Crews initially were told at least one person was inside the burning house, but all the occupants were able to escape safely.
One firefighter broke a leg during the blaze, according to WABC. Another firefighter suffered burns.
